Like any grand Italian house, the focus of the design of Villa La Scagliola is the piano nobile, the principal rooms on the first floor.
Here they are built round an atrium.
The niche under the turret looking over the lake feels like the prow of an ocean liner.
Built into the side of the hill rising up from the lake, the piano nobile has a grand entrance onto the street.
The wings of the villa contain the dining room on one side and one of the principal bedrooms on the other, all connected by two terraces.
Above, the turret bedroom spans the width of the villa.
